An Update from Capitol Hill

Our latest vlog comes to you from Capitol Hill, where attendees of our 2014 Winter Business Meeting and National Issues Conference visited the offices of more than 200 lawmakers this week to discuss the issues most important to the commercial real estate industry. From leasehold depreciation and the Terrorism Risk Insurance Act (TRIA) to tax reform, the Congressional outcomes on these issues have the potential to impact the CRE industry for many years to come.

I also had the chance to speak with a number of BOMA members following their Capitol Hill visits. You can find videos of these interviews on the National Issues Conference channel of BOMATV.

If you weren’t able to join us in Washington, D.C. this week, I encourage you to get involved in the political process in other ways, whether you visit your legislative representatives in their district offices or simply contact lawmakers via e-mail or phone.  As always, you can find the latest advocacy information and resources on the Industry Issues page of the BOMA International website. As debates over key issues like tax reform intensify in Congress, it is more important than ever that we remind policymakers of commercial real estate’s vital role as an engine for economic growth and job creation.
