HID (HIGH INTENSITY DISCHARGE) LAMP

A category of lamp that emits light through electricity activating probes which in turn excite pressurized gas in a bulb, including metal halide, sodium halide, and mercury vapor.  They are typically used when high light levels are required over large areas.  HID’s use a ballast and require regular replacement.  In a warehouse scenario, HID’s they typically consume 400 watts.  HID’s produce significant UV radiation and require UV blocking filters to reduce fading of illuminated products.  Typical lifespan for an HID is 7500 to 10,000 hours at 10 hours per start.
