Get Prepared During National Preparedness Month

FEMANPM2016_logo_vFinal (1).pngSeptember is National Preparedness Month, an annual campaign sponsored by the U.S. Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) to encourage Americans to take steps to prepare for emergencies in their homes, businesses and communities. This year, FEMA is devoting each week of September to a different level of preparedness. To supplement FEMA's efforts, BOMA International will be posting resources on its website specifically geared towards the commercial real estate industry on each theme.

Check back each week for new resources, such as how to create or strengthen a commercial building's emergency preparedness plan.

More information on National Preparedness Month can be found by visiting Ready.gov/September. For any questions on how to get involved, please contact BOMA’s Manager of Advocacy, Dylan Isenberg, at disenberg@boma.org.

 Preparedness

BOMA's Emergency Preparedness Guidebook: The Property Professional’s Resource for Developing Emergency Plans for Natural and Human-Based Threats is the industry’s most up-to-date guide to help property professionals prepare for and respond to a broad range of potential threats. The guidebook walks the user step-by-step through the four phases of emergency management—mitigation, preparedness, response and recovery—to help ensure tenant safety and building security during emergency situations.

 Influenza Pandemic

Are you prepared to assist your tenants in preparing for or responding to a pandemic? BOMA's tenant brochure Pandemic Influenza: Are You Prepared? assists property professionals in communicating with tenants about the potential impacts associated with pandemic influenza, the importance of developing proper planning in the case of an outbreak and methods of implementing procedures to help individuals protect themselves.
