Newell Rubbermaid Seeks 360 Zen

Newell-Rubbermaid-HQ166x250.jpgWhen Rubbermaid Commercial Products (RCP) decided it wanted to explore the BOMA 360 Performance Program®, it did so with the goal of linking its own industry leading performance standards to that of a program that is regarded by many in the commercial real estate industry as the best indicator of elite performance in property operations and management. Already a BOMA International Cornerstone Partner, RCP began its BOMA 360 journey by becoming  a BOMA 360 Ambassador – a select group of commercial vendors that help raise industry awareness about the operational advantages of the BOMA 360 Program and its benefits in the marketplace. “The BOMA 360 Ambassador program is Rubbermaid Commercial Products walking the talk” says Corey Rodriguez, National Account Segment Manager. “As an organization, we needed to understand the process before we could confidently raise awareness within the commercial real estate industry.”

With their newly established partnership in the BOMA 360 Ambassadors Program, RCP decided the next step in the journey would be to submit their company headquarters for the BOMA 360 designation. In the first quarter of 2012, the Newell Rubbermaid Global Headquarters Building (Atlanta, GA) earned the BOMA 360 designation. Highlighting the accomplishment, senior manager of marketing communications for RCP Keith Fazio remarks, “The BOMA 360 designation is the crowning achievement in a long list of recognitions and awards the building has received.”

At the heart of the BOMA 360 Program is the concept that it allows companies to continually assess their management practices against a set of best practices that have been identified throughout the industry. As these standards continue to evolve, so too does the need for companies to adapt their procedures to ensure they are constantly moving forward with the times and not being left behind.

“The BOMA 360 program was a great motivator to assemble building management operational strategies and logically catalog them for quick reference,” says Newell Rubbermaid’s senior manager of Property & Construction, Calvin Lower.  “It’s a great tool to ensure a building has all of the management practices in place to drive efficiency and communication both inside and outside the building shell.  We’re also now able to clearly see what areas within our performance categories are being optimized, as well as some areas that show opportunity for improvement.”

A recurring theme for BOMA 360 designees is that the program is a uniquely rewarding educational process for property management teams, allowing them to identify areas for improvement, and have a sense of pride for the areas where they are excelling.

Fazio and the rest of the RCP team see eye-to-eye when it comes to the importance of the BOMA 360 Program, noting, “Building management is a living process that continues to evolve. Like a road to Zen enlightenment, you never achieve perfection, but you are continually working to improve in the areas you can, and the BOMA 360 Program provides a roadmap for you to follow on your journey to being best in class.”
