(WASHINGTON, D.C. – September 2, 2016) The Building Owners and Managers Association (BOMA) International is pleased to announce that John Bryant has joined the staff as Vice President of Advocacy, Codes & Standards. Bryant will lead BOMA’s federal and state advocacy programs and oversee its efforts representing the interests of commercial real estate during the development of model building codes. In his capacity as the association’s chief advocate, he will work with lawmakers and federal agencies on a wide range of issues affecting the industry.
Bryant comes to BOMA from NAIOP, the Commercial Real Estate Development Association, where he most recently served as senior director of Federal Affairs. While at NAIOP, he successfully lobbied for a host of environmental and land-use initiatives and for the passage of several tax extenders beneficial to the commercial real estate industry. He also was instrumental in advocating for the development of building code energy efficiency legislation, which currently is being conferenced by the U.S. House and Senate. He is widely recognized as an industry expert, and he has authored numerous articles on a wide range of legislative and regulatory issues affecting commercial real estate.
Prior to his 13 years at NAIOP, Bryant served as environmental and transportation advisor to former Representative Cynthia McKinney (D-Ga.). In this position, he helped to draft legislation on environmental issues, directed business and community outreach and served as the primary congressional liaison to federal agencies.
