Real Estate Coalition Submits Lead Paint Comments to EPA (7/10/14)

On June 30, the Commercial Properties Coalition, of which BOMA International is a member, submitted comments to the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) in response to EPA’s proposed framework for identifying and evaluating lead-based paint hazards from renovation, repair and painting activities in public and commercial buildings. EPA will consider public comments and develop proposed requirements to reduce any hazards, if found.  EPA is working towards a goal of proposing regulations in mid-2015.

The Commercial Properties Coalition’s comments to EPA caution that undertaking hazard identification and evaluation at the same time is misguided and that the technical aspects of the framework are not fully developed. The Coalition concluded that the EPA has several steps that must first be taken before proceeding to a proposed rulemaking.

The Coalition’s comments may be found on BOMA’s website.
