FAA Reauthorization Moves Forward in Senate (4/21/2016)

On April 19, the U.S. Senate passed an 18-month U.S. Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) reauthorization bill, which now heads to the U.S. House for consideration. The bill passed the Senate after weeks of debate on a series of controversial amendments that ended up being excluded from the vote on Tuesday. The bill contains completely new directives for incorporating drones into American airspace, but keeps the status of commercial drone use unchanged. The good news is that there is a section directing the FAA to form an exploratory coalition with the industry to find ways to map a future for commercial drone operations.
