BOMA Vlog Issue 20

Creating a More Diverse CRE Workplace

As Baby Boomers who work in commercial real estate begin to retire, our industry needs to recruit the best and brightest new talent to take their place—namely the Millennials.  Generation Y not only is the fastest growing demographic in the workplace—by the end of this year, they will make up nearly 50 percent of the workforce—they also are the most diverse generation in history.  As an industry, we need to focus on how to make careers in commercial real estate attractive to Millennials and, in the process, create a more diverse industry.  That’s the subject of our latest vlog.

I encourage you to get involved in efforts to attract new talent to commercial real estate, whether that’s as a mentor for your BOMA local association’s emerging professionals group, as a volunteer at BOMA International’s annual Career Day at the Every Building Conference & Expo or as a sponsor of the Real Estate Associate Program—the future of our industry depends on it.
