BOMA International Revolutionizes Benchmarking Report

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

BOMA’s Experience Exchange Report Transitions Online, Features Sophisticated New Reporting Options

(WASHINGTON—July 22, 2009) The Building Owners and Managers Association (BOMA) International today released the 2009 Experience Exchange Report (EER), which features a new online format and many user–friendly updates. Developed in collaboration with well–known industry research firm Kingsley Associates, the completely online format combines the industry´s most comprehensive data on commercial real estate income and operating expenses by market with advanced Web´based technology. Previously, the EER was available only in book or CD formats.

The new online system features several sophisticated enhancements that make it easier for users to drill down into the data, including

  • The ability to query data by market, submarket, building size, building type, age of the building, by ownership type, and more
  • A new pricing structure which allows users to pay for exactly the data they need. A single market starts at $125, additional markets at $25 each, and the entire report for $250. Submitters to the survey can purchase data at significant discounts.
  • A function that exports data into charts, PDFs and Excel files, allowing users to expedite analysis, build budgets faster and easily create presentations
  • Access to data from the 2008 EER, allowing users to run historical performance comparisons
  • A data-computing system with the capability to crunch nearly 15 million data points in less than 40 seconds

"The retooling of the EER comes at a critical time, as industry professionals recognize that benchmarking is paramount to success in a down economy," remarked BOMA International Chair and Chief Elected Officer James A. Peck, RPA, FMA, senior director of asset services, CB Richard Ellis. "The new online EER makes it easier and faster to query income and expense data, and allows a more sophisticated performance analysis than ever before."

"We have worked hard to ensure that the 2009 EER is as efficient, accurate and user-friendly as possible," said Steve Kingsley, founder and president of Kingsley Associates. "We are confident that these new features will maximize the EER´s utility and value for industry professionals, whether they be institutional investors, brokers or property managers."

The 2009 EER features data from nearly 4,000 buildings in close to 300 markets in the U. S. and Canada. It includes national trends analysis and market–level reports including those for special use facilities, such as medical office buildings, corporate facilities, financial buildings, agency managed and all electric buildings. Property and asset managers regularly use the EER to gauge their property and portfolio´s performance. Investors and appraisers use the data as a barometer for assessing how a property is financially positioned in its market and comparable markets.
