Incentives for Investing in Water Efficiency

BOMA Position

BOMA International supports incentives to promote investment in water efficient products for commercial buildings, such as toilets, urinals, faucets, showerheads, re-landscaping, site irrigation systems and applicable HVAC systems.

Background

According to the EPA, Americans now use an average of 100 gallons of water each day—enough to fill 1,600 drinking glasses. A recent government survey showed at least 36 states are anticipating local, regional, or statewide water shortages by 2013.
By using water more efficiently, buildings can save money, help preserve water supplies for future generations, and protect the environment.
Rebates or other incentives for purchasing high efficiency products, such as toilets, faucets, showerheads and site irrigation systems, would help building owners to make the investment to conserve our nation’s water supply.
