Conference Highlights
General Session Luncheon
Tuesday, January 31
Featuring Tucker Carlson An original voice in American media, Tucker Carlson brings insightful commentary, infused with humor and passion, to today’s political landscape.
As a contributor to FOX News, the editor-in-chief of the Daily Caller news site and a senior fellow at the Cato Institute, Tucker Carlson deconstructs the day's events with wry skepticism, a unique perspective and provocative interviews. Carlson has hosted a number of different nightly news programs on various networks over the past 10 years, including CNN's Crossfire, and several shows on MSNBC and PBS. One of the media's wittiest and most entertaining commentators, Carlson brings his informed viewpoint to discuss politics in America including his take on the divided Congress, the administration of Barack Obama and the 2012 elections. Author of Politicians, Partisans, and Parasites and a regular contributor to Esquire, Carlson's work has appeared in The New York Times, The Wall Street Journal, New York Magazine, Reader's Digest, Forbes and GQ. He was a finalist for a 2004 National Magazine Award for an Esquire article chronicling his trip to Africa with the Rev. Al Sharpton.
Board of Governors
Featuring Gary Shapiro President and CEO Consumer Electronics Association
Gary Shapiro is president and CEO of the Consumer Electronics Association (CEA)®, the U.S. trade association representing over 2,000 consumer electronics companies and owning and producing the continent’s largest annual tradeshow, the International CES®.
Shapiro led the industry in its successful transition to HDTV. He co-founded and chaired the HDTV Model Station and served as a leader of the Advanced Television Test Center (ATTC). He is a charter inductee to the Academy of Digital Television Pioneers, and received its highest award as the industry leader most influential in advancing HDTV. He focused on the need for and led the effort to obtain the 2009 cut-off date of analog broadcasting.
Shapiro authored the 2011 bestselling book The Comeback: How Innovation Will Restore the American Dream, which argues that innovation, when supported by a policy environment that enables entrepreneurship and technology-led change, can drive the U.S. economic recovery.
