Focus on the Issues

Tax reform, ADA reform, and energy are all at the top of Congress's 2017 to-do list make sure your Members of Congress hear how those issues impact you.

The prospect for comprehensive, economy-altering tax reform is very real in 2017, and BOMA members must have their say. We will prepare you with talking points on how the House GOP Blueprint could change the fabric of the commercial real estate industry and how to make sure that your Senators and Representatives understand the importance of CRE to the economies of their districts and state.

ADA Reform has also gotten off to a quick start in 2017 and telling your personal story about excessive drive-by lawsuits that do not remedy accessibility issues is important to gaining more momentum.

The Tax Deduction for Energy Efficient Commercial Buildings (179D) was allowed to expire at the end of 2016, we must work with our lawmakers to enhance and renew this necessary tool to decrease energy usage and save money for greater reinvestment.

WHY 2017?

The 2016 election results ushered in over 50 new faces to Capitol Hill, a new presidential administration and a new era of single-party governance. Those elements make this a unique time in history for large, vast-reaching legislation to move quickly. BOMA members must have their voices heard early in order to matter!

Traditionally, BOMA hosts its biennial fly-in, the National Issues Conference, on even numbered years in conjunction with the Winter Business Meeting. For 2017 we felt the changing landscape of Capitol Hill was important enough to host this additional event for the first time.
