About BOMA

BOMA Cal Political Action Committee

Politics is a strange blend of facts and friendship. BOMA Cal's first and foremost mission is to convey the facts about issues important to the commercial office building industry in a manner which encourage legislators to consider the interests of building owners and managers when casting their vote. For their part, legislators today really do make the most honest attempt at objectively considering the facts we present on an issue, as well as the facts as presented by competing interests.

But the effort to influence legislative outcomes is always easier when the legislator you are speaking with shares your political philosophy, and viewpoint on many (not necessarily all) pertinent issues. Thus it is vitally important that an organization like BOMA Cal, which represents billions of dollars of capital investment in this state alone, and a significant part of the economy, help elect individuals who share our ideas on many subjects.

Getting someone elected today is expensive, and organizations who strive to succeed in the political arena must make contributions to cover the expenses of candidates whom they support. BOMA does that through its Political Action Committee (PAC). In 2001, the BOMA Cal PAC, guided by the BOMA Cal Executive Committee, made nearly $50,000 in contributions to state legislators. In 2003, BOMA Cal is seeking to increase that level of contribution to $75,000.

You can help. Under state law, you or your company can contribute up to $5,000 per year to the BOMA Cal Pac. If your company contributes the maximum, you can still contribute, as long as the company does not reimburse you for that contribution.

Your contribution can be done in one of two ways. A direct contribution by check to the BOMA Cal PAC, 1121 L/ St., Suite 100, Sacramento Ca. 95814, or a contribution to your metropolitan BOMA PAC (if one exists), which in turn, will make a PAC to PAC transfer, as determined by the local BOMA PAC committee. We advise you to consult with your local BOMA association executive to determine what best fits your associations needs.

However, whether you directly contribute, or contribute through your local BOMA, we respectfully request that you make a contribution at the highest levels you can afford. The more we can help elect legislators who share our professional goals, the more friends we will have to help us, which has a direct bearing on your business.

In future updates, we will share with you who is contributing to the BOMA Cal PAC and who the BOMA Cal PAC is supporting.
