Medical Office Buildings and Healthcare Facilities Committee

BOMA's MOB Committee is an active network of commercial real estate professionals specializing in medical office buildings and healthcare facilities. Committee members include portfolio managers, senior property managers, developers, investors, operations managers and hospital executives responsible for real estate. The Committee meets monthly by conference call and has a lively email interchange through its listserv, for ideas and best practices sharing.

The Committee develops and hosts BOMA’s annual Medical Office Buildings and Healthcare Facilities Seminar. The seminar addresses a wide range of issues related to the development, leasing, and managing of these specialized facilities. The program includes case studies, roundtables, panel discussions, interactive sessions and keynote addresses focused on issues and trends in healthcare and their impact on healthcare real estate.

In 2007, the seminar is scheduled for July 19-20, in New York, New York. Planning is underway, and information about the seminar's sessions will soon be available on our Web site at www.bomaconvention.org. From the BOMA Convention home page, go to "Education Programs" and then to "Medical Office Buildings Seminar," or contact Emily Naden at (202) 408-2662 or education@boma.org.

The Committee also authored BOMA's highly regarded publication on healthcare real estate management, Developing, Leasing and Managing Healthcare Real Estate.

Other Committee initiatives include enhancing and expanding operating income and expense data on this sector of the industry, in BOMA’s Experience Exchange Report. For 2006, data on nearly 450 medical office buildings is reported and analyzed.

The group also monitors healthcare regulations that emerge at the federal and state levels, and they track trends in healthcare delivery and practice, as both areas can affect—dramatically—the development, leasing and management of these properties.
