BOMA Local Associations Honored for Communications Excellence and Innovation

BOMA Local Associations in Boston, San Francico and Suburban Chicago Receive Best Practices Awards

(Washington, DC—July 21, 2008) The Building Owners and Managers Association (BOMA) International recently honored three BOMA local associations for outstanding best practices in marketing communications, communications management and electronic and interactive communications. The winners were announced at the BOMA International Conference and The Office Building Show, held June 22-24 in Denver. The awards are part of BOMA International’s Best Practices Awards Program that allows BOMA local associations to share and display their successful activities and programs.

The winner in the Marketing Communications category was BOMA/Boston for their Emerging Professionals Blueprint for Success Series to attract the next generation of leaders in the industry. This program is a series of after-work programs with an educational component on topics such as building operations, industry acronyms and LEED certification. Its focus is to educate young professionals while providing them with peer-to-peer networking opportunities.

The winner in the Communications Management category was BOMA/San Francisco for their Earth Awards Program entry, which recognized achievements of BOMA member buildings in implementing environmentally sustainable practices in their properties while communicating these actions to local businesses, government and San Francisco residents.

The winner in the Electronic & Interactive Communications category was BOMA/Suburban Chicago for their podcast communications, aimed at retaining current members and reaching out to potential members through a weekly electronic update. These updates can be accessed on their Web site and have created measurable success for their local association.

Two local associations were also given honorable mentions, one to BOMA/Houston in the Communications Management category for their BOMA/IREM Golf Tournament, and the other to BOMA/Atlanta in the Electronic & Interactive Communications category for their legislative alert emails.

“These BOMA local associations have shown outstanding leadership and innovation in developing and implementing these communication programs,” remarked BOMA International 2007-2008 Chair and Chief Elected Officer Brenna Walraven, managing director, national property management, USAA Real Estate Company. “Not only do their programs add value for their members, they also strengthen the BOMA organization and the industry as whole.”
