Fourteen North American Commercial Properties Win The Office Building of the Year (TOBY) Awards
ANAHEIM, CALIF.—The commercial real estate industry honored 14 North American commercial properties with The Office Building of the Year (TOBY) Award at the Building Owners and Managers Association (BOMA) International’s annual North American Commercial Real Estate Congress and The Office Building Show held recently in Anaheim, California.
The TOBY winners were recognized for excellence in office building management and operations in specific categories of building size or type. Competition was fierce at the international competition level, with a total of 76 entries in 14 categories.
To win the international award, the office buildings first won both local and regional competitions. Judging was based on community impact, tenant/employee relations programs, energy management systems, accessibility for disabled people, emergency evacuation procedures, building personnel training programs, and overall quality indicators. A team of expert industry professionals also conducted a comprehensive building inspection.
The winners of the 2004-2005 TOBY Awards in the 14 categories:
- In the Renovated Building category, the winner is Colorado State Bank Building, Denver, Colorado, submitted by Property Manager John M. Whitlock, RPA. The property management company is Brookfield Properties Colorado, L.L.C., and the owners are Colorado State Bank Building, Ltd. and Brookfield CSBB Inc.
- In the Historical Building category, the winner is 1001 McKinney, Houston, Texas, submitted by Building Manager Sarah Ellison, RPA. USAA Realty Company manages the property, and 1001 McKinney Venture, L.P. is the owner.
- In the Corporate Facility category, the winner is Wachovia Customer Information Center, Charlotte North Carolina, submitted by Senior Property Manager Deborah Atkins and Property Manager Melinda Harrell. The property management company is Childress Klein Properties, and the owner is Wachovia Bank, NA.
- In the Medical Office Building category, the winner is Northwestern Memorial Hospital, Chicago, Illinois, submitted by General Manager Kate Wojciechowski. Lillibridge Healthcare Services, Inc. manages the property, which is owned by Northwestern Memorial Hospital.
- In the Government Building category, the winner is King Street Center, Seattle, Washington, submitted by Building Manager Gayle Powell, CPM. Wright Runstad & Company is the management company, and CDP King County III is the building owner.
- In the Suburban Office Park Low-Rise category, the winner is Great Valley Corporate Center, Malvern, Pennsylvania, submitted by Senior Property Manager James Schow. The property is owned and managed by Liberty Property Trust.
- In the Suburban Office Park Mid-Rise category, the winner is The Water Garden, Santa Monica, California, submitted by Senior Property Manager Kris Laine, RPA, and Property Manager Cindy Gouker, RPA. The property is managed byTrammel Crow Company and owned by Water Garden Company, L.L.C. and Water Garden Realty Holding, L.L.C.
- In the Industrial Office Park category, the winner is Highlands Overlook, Norcross, Georgia, submitted by Real Estate Manager Kim Eginton, RPA. CB Richard Ellis, Inc. is the management company for the property, which is owned by SERBO c/o Invesco Real Estate.
- In the buildings Under 100,000 Square Foot category, the winner is Crystal Park Plaza, Round Rock, Texas, submitted by Senior Property Manager Don Roberts. The property is managed by Opus West Management Corporation and owned by Opus Real Estate National V TX, L.P.
- In the 100,000 to 249,999 Square Foot category, the winner is the 5000 Plaza on the Lake, Austin, Texas, submitted by Senior Property Manager Paula Boyd, CPM. USAA Realty Company manages the building, and the owner is Prime Real Estate Equities I, L.P.
- In the 250,000 to 499,999 Square Foot category, the winner is Hibernia Bank Plaza, Houston, Texas, submitted by Senior Property Manager Andrew Pierce. The building is managed by Trammell Crow Company, and owned by 5718 Westheimer Road Investors, L.P.
- In the 500,000 to One Million Square Foot category, the winner is The 1700 Seventh Avenue Building, Seattle, Washington, submitted by Building Manager Ben Barron, CCIM, and Assistant Building Manager Kate Costanza. Clise Properties, Inc. is the management company, and 1700 Seventh Avenue, L.P. is the building owner.
- In the Over One Million Square Foot category, the winner is Republic Plaza, Denver, Colorado, submitted by Property Manager: Kit McPhail-Bowman. The property is owned and managed by Brookfield Properties.
- The Earth Award winner is FedEx World Tech Center, Collierville, Tennessee, submitted by Property Manager Stephen White, RPA, FMA, MCR, SIOR. Federal Express Corporation manages the property, which is owned by Northwestern Mutual Life Insurance Company, RUSH IT, LLC, and First Union National Bank.
