Mission
The BOMA International Foundation is dedicated to advancing real estate performance and public understanding of the commercial real estate industry through research, education and the dissemination of information.
The Building Owners and Managers Association (BOMA) International Foundation is an independent, tax-exempt organization (501(c) 3) dedicated to sponsoring and encouraging innovative research and educational activities that advance the commercial real estate industry and profession. In addition, the Foundation initiates programs that seek to enhance the public appreciation of real estate and its significance in society. The Foundation is affiliated with the Building Owners and Managers Association International, the nation's oldest and largest commercial real estate organization.
The work of the Foundation touches all aspects of commercial real estate training and research. Programs and projects are developed to assist real estate professionals, researchers and others concerned with building performance and its impact on society. Foundation programs are supported through tax-deductible gifts, grants and bequests from BOMA members and other building owners and managers, real estate related companies, foundations and trusts, government agencies and interested individuals. The Foundation is guided by a Board of Trustees composed of senior BOMA members, industry representatives and other persons prominent in the real estate community.
Sponsored Scholarships, Fellowships and Research
The BOMA Foundation is a source of financial support and program initiatives to encourage thoughtful research and study to expand the social and economic impact of real estate. Activities include:
- Sponsored Scholarships - Funds from the Foundation and from individuals and companies provide scholarship assistance to talented real estate professionals with demonstrated financial need. An example is the G. Vern Tatham Scholarship, which recognizes achievement by individual candidates in the commercial office building industry and provides financial assistance to pursue completion of designated courses.
- Sponsored Fellowships - In cooperation with leading real estate companies, the Foundation develops funded fellowships for faculty at academic institutions, intended to support special research activities that address key topics of commercial real estate theory and practice.
- Special Real Estate Research Projects - The Foundation seeks out special research projects that can address important current issues of interest to the real estate community. The research is disseminated as white papers to real estate professionals. Projects are developed by the Foundation, as well as in response to proposals from BOMA members and other professionals.
Projects in Real Estate Education
As a supplement to BOMA's on-going program of performance education, the Foundation can develop projects and programs with the potential to have broad-based impact on the real estate community.
Memorial Gifts
The Memorial Giving Program of the Foundation provides a means for friends, colleagues and relatives to commemorate a deceased individual whose work provides an inspiration to others. Memorial gifts are listed annually and are recognized in permanent records at BOMA International. Memorial contributions support all of the Foundation's efforts in education, research and public service.
The Value of Your Support
The potential of the BOMA International Foundation to truly "make a difference" in the real estate industry rests with its ability to secure the committed support of the entire community. BOMA members, individuals and real estate-related companies are encouraged to consider a tax-deductible financial commitment to the Foundation.
Supporting the BOMA International Foundation provides:
- A unique way for a company to achieve positive visibility among dedicated real estate professionals
- Opportunities for individuals or real estate companies to underwrite programs that will have a positive impact on the future of the industry
- A special means to ensure the continued growth of the profession and industry through enhanced education, innovative research and the recognition of quality and excellence.
The BOMA International Foundation encourages individuals and companies to suggest cooperative programs and projects where Foundation participation can be beneficial. Specific projects can often be named in recognition of the sponsoring company, group or individual.

The BOMA Foundation has developed an innovative new operational excellence program called the BOMA Energy Efficiency Program (BEEP). BEEP teaches property owners, managers, and operators important strategies for optimizing their equipment, people, and practices.
In partnership with the US Environmental Protection Agency ENERGY STAR program, BEEP has and will continue to develop industry standards for operational excellence, document success through recognition programs, and communicate those successes to our industry and stakeholders.
